You can't keep a tough Pixie down…
Lom is a bounty hunter, paid to bring magical creatures of all descriptions back Underhill, to prevent war with humans should they discover the strangers amongst them. Bella is about to find out she's a real life fairy princess, but all she wants to do is live peacefully in Alaska, where the biggest problems are hungry grizzly bears. He has to bring her in. It's nothing personal, it's his job…
"They had almost had me, that once. I’d been young and foolish, trying to do something heroic, of course. I wouldn’t do that again anytime soon. Now, I work for duty, but nothing more than is necessary to fulfill the family debt. I get paid, which makes me a bounty hunter, but she's about to teach me about honor. Like all lessons, this one was going to hurt. Fortunately, I have a good gun to fill my hand, and if I have to go, she has been good to look at."
Dave Freer, author of Dog and Dragon, The Forlorn, and many others, says ""To those of you who thought there was nothing new worth reading in Fantasy Cedar Sanderson’s Pixie Noir proves that you are wrong. The author plainly knows and loves her setting and characters, and this carries through to the reader. The pace picks up throughout, so save this book for a weekend, or you’ll be complaining about a lack of sleep at work. A very good read!"
Pixie Noir Pixie for Hire Book 1 eBook Cedar Sanderson
I’m very glad that I bought Pixie Noir the first day it was available. Each new offering I read from Cedar Sanderson makes me more grateful of her ability to paint an in-depth world with incredible vibrancy and a full dimensionality.I enjoyed the first part of this novel as we were introduced to the main characters, Lom and Bella, and to a detailed portrait of rural Alaska. I was immediately drawn in to the characters and the area of action as the initial conflict of the novel began to develop. As the two worked an escape from danger and travelled to the fairy and pixie world of Underhill, the book gripped me and drew me in. The images of the fantasy land and new people and their skills and the growth of Bella’s abilities as she becomes aware of her fairy powers were well developed and added to the color of the story and made the story development believable and engrossing.
As the conflict grows to a climax I was unable to put the book down, and was hoping that not only would the bad guys be defeated but that the two main characters would get to be together ever after. The ending was well written, and the solutions to the problems were completely consistent with the universal rules required by the universe, and left me satisfied. I would highly recommend this book.

Pixie Noir Pixie for Hire Book 1 eBook Cedar Sanderson Reviews
I don't usually care very much for fantasy, but Cedar Sanderson's "Pixie Noir" is an exception -- with an exclamation point or two.
She's woven a tight story full of believable, likeable characters, solid action, readily-understood politics, principled core beliefs, and a dash of humor that's hard to put down once you've started it.
The book opens in Alaska, but most of the action takes place in Underhill, the abode of fairies, pixies, goblins and trolls. There are not one but TWO crazy uncles, plus an assortment of other family members that all of us can relate to. There's cutthroat competition, betrayal, brutality, bravery, honor, a bit of slapstick, and throat-gripping danger. The hero is believably heroic, the heroine is someone worth falling in love with, and the enemies are evil enough to be worth hating. This is one novel you'll want to keep around to re-read from time to time, just for the pleasure of it.
Now to put the pressure on to ensure there's a second book in the series, as soon as possible.
I have been reading urban fantasy for around five years now. I discovered the genre with Butcher's "Dresden files" and since then have been looking for more of the same. The search has led me to the more well known series like "Iron Druid" by Hearne, the "Alex Verus" series by Jacka and the Monster Hunter books by Corria. I have found and loved lesser known works such as the "Demon Accords" by Conroe, the Imp series by Dunbar and the Kate Daniels books by Andrews.
Pixie Noir is just as good as any of these.
There was enough common ground to tie it into the genre and other works but just enough fresh new ideas to keep this book compelling.
I loved the more rural take as many of these types are in a more urban setting. I loved the rugged self reliance attitudes.
It's hard to narrow down what I dislike about the book. It's not perfect but it has no obvious flaws. I will definitely buy the sequel and hope for more goodness.
If anyone had told me I'd enjoy reading a romantic adventure featuring a wee pixie and a fairy princess... who *sparkles* no less, I'd've said they were nuts. But from the opening scenes when the Dashiell Hammet-style Summer Court gumshoe is taken aback by the dame with legs that go on forever, and the stunning rack conveniently located at eye-level (He IS a pixie) I was hooked. Our hero is non too happy with the messenger-boy / escort duty he's been handed by The Powers that Be, but a job's a job. Get the gal to sign off on her inheritance, and never mind that she's making him feel guilty about the nest of magic, murder and obligation he'll be sending her into.
The Fae princess is a wildlife biologist in the Alaskan Bush who knows her way around a rifle. Or a grenade launcher. Handy thing to have when Ogres are hunting you.
Great fun. Highly recommended. Now I'm off to read book 2.
Light-hearted but suspenseful as well. Good fast story telling, writing. Moves things right a long and quite a bit of fun along the way. Some good jokes as well. Any book that starts of with "a truly magnificent rack" in the first paragraph... hehe yeah I gotta give a couple stars for that. And then plays on it for quite a good ways.
I'll be starting book 2 in about 10 minutes I think... Fun story, but with definitely darker edges around it. Well told, fun read, and fast paced!
